The Kaniva Community Hub has a long and interesting background................
|
from the beginning |
the investment |
The community saw a need for a function venue to seat 100-150 patrons. Kaniva and surrounding districts are serviced by private venues suitable for up to 100 patrons, and the Kaniva Shire Hall
that can comfortably seat 300, but there was no venue for functions in between those numbers. The new Hub includes a function room, bar, office, flexible meeting rooms and a commercial kitchen. Disability access is a key inclusion in the new structure, providing greater accessibility to people of all abilities and age groups. The new building includes a Corporate Box area on the first floor which has a platform lift, making the area accessible to everyone. It is hoped the Hub has become a destination for weddings and large celebrations that previously sought suitable venues outside of Kaniva. By hosting large functions, there will be a flow on effect to the businesses of Kaniva, including new opportunities for catering services and accommodation providers. |
The construction of the Kaniva Community Hub is an investment that will help retain the local population and increase the liveability of Kaniva with a vastly improved Kaniva Recreation Reserve.
The Hub is used as a home ground throughout the year for Kaniva Leeor United Football Club, Kaniva Leeor United Netball Club, Kaniva Hockey Club and Kaniva Cricket Club. These organisations have over 500 members and volunteers collectively. An initial partnership made up of the following financial contributions enabled the project to go ahead: Victorian State Government $495,000 Kaniva Leeor United Football Club $100,000 West Wimmera Shire Council $50,000 Kaniva Hockey Club $10,000 Kaniva Leeor United Netball Club $10,000 Kaniva A&P Society $1,000 The Kaniva Community Hub Project has invested over $1,000,000 into the local economy. Since then the West Wimmera Shire council have committed another $151,000 to the project. Donations and pledges from local businesses, community organisations and proud community members along with fundraising events have also raised much needed funds. |
